  • To the east of the auberge, past a few houses of the village, the coastline becomes wild. It is one of the rare sections of the beach where its raw beauty has been preserved. To the west, you walk along the village of Métis-sur-Mer, with its antique homes renowned for their unique charm, and the beach that has been enjoyed by wayfarers for over a century.

The Mitis

A “region” in the area.

Mitis is a regional county municipality (RCM) located in the administrative area of the Lower-Saint-Lawrence in the province of Quebec. Its capital is the town of Mont-Joli. Métis-sur-Mer is part of this RCM, although the village is geographically located in Gaspésie. You can get a wealth of information from the RCM tourism website and its map.

The Reford Gardens

The main attraction of the region

A mere 15 km from the auberge, these delightful and internationally recognized English-style gardens are the region’s main tourist attraction. National Historic Site since 1995.

Stroll to the mouth of the Mitis river

When you exit the 132 to enter the Reford Gardens, take the first small road to your left (before arriving to the parking area for the Gardens). Then walk approximately 1 km to the river. Small parking lot, very pretty place.

Mitis River Park

A stone’s throw from the Reford Gardens, across the bridge which spans the Mitis river. Very interesting science exhibits and pretty walks are a go-to. www.parcmitis.com

Boule Rock Golf Club (1,8 km)

Cascade Golf and Tennis Club (2,5 km)

Rimouski (Pointe-au-Père)

The national historic site of the Pointe-au-Père lighthouse is located 46 km from the auberge. Maritime museum of the Empress of Ireland, the Onondaga submarine and the lighthouse (where you may have the opportunity to climb to the top of the lighthouse). www.shmp.qc.ca
